What's In A Name?

To me, titles of paintings are very important. generally, as I'm working on a piece, the title reveals itself to me. Often it is a play on words.  I always like a little whimsy.

Such as....

A WEB OF FLIES - collage/mixed media
 ....or

FETE ACCOMPLI - acrylics

FETE being a celebration or festival that, I hope, has been conveyed in paint.  If so, it is indeed a fait accompli.

  1. LOVE IT Jo!!! I am so into clever play on words etc. You might be interested in a book called 'An Exaltation of Larks' by James Lipton. I had gotten it at our local library and fell in love with it, even listing my very favorite lines on a journal page. Yes, your art and titles are truly a fait accompli!

  3. I agree names are important and yours are so much more interesting than "study #12". I struggle with naming my pieces anything other than a literal name like "big green circle" - okay maybe I"m not that bad, but that is definitely something I'm NOT clever about. Karen Issacson is another person great with whimsical but appropos names. Yet another thing to admire about you!

  4. Oui Oui bien sur!
You certainly do have a party going on in the second one and Web of Flies really conjures up some images for me too!
